my folks just celebrated their 50th anniversary, half a century! emily and i recorded a version of this Bee Gees tune for them as a gift.
i don't know that this was a Big Song for them through the years, but it took on a special significance back in 2019 before my Grandma Myrt passed away. she started staying with my parents when the dementia began to make it unsafe for her to live alone. while she was there they found an old Best of the Bee Gees tape, and she LOVED when they would play it - especially 'To Love Somebody.' it was like she was hearing it for the first time every day, and she would always remark with surprise what a great song it was and by the end she would be belting out the "no no no nooooo" part and they would all be laughing (she was not a... graceful singer 🤠). it really helped to lift the mood during a difficult time.
